Weekly Anime Round-Up: August 19th– August 25th

Things are back up to speed, and I’ve managed to catch up on all things Symphogear, for those who felt left out last week.  We are entering the last quarter of this summer, and plans are brewing for the fall season.  At this time I’m not planning on taking up as many shows for the round-up, but I’m sure I will still get seduced by more shows than I plan to watch as always.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 7
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Iris heart is arguably more evil at heart than the villains of Gameindustri.

Easy-going and absent minded Plutia joins the crew this week, much to the elation of fans of Neptunia V.  Arfore hatches a new scheme to destroy the goddesses, and anyone that has played V probably knows this is a bad thing to do around Plutia.  Prepare yourselves for the magnificence that is Iris Heart.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 8
I really want a Monokuma plushie.

With another trial over, another floor of the Academy is unlocked.  Naegi bears witness to events that leads him to believe that Monobear has a student working for him amongst the crew, and this causes some friction between Kyouko and himself.  And of course, another student winds up dead.  Find out which one!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 7
Ilya demonstrates her true otaku spirit.

Before jumping back into the action, things go back into comedy territory this week.  Did you know that Ilya has a thing for maids?  The first half of this episode is full of depraved hilariousness, but things get serious again when the Assassin card appears.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 20
Careful, she’s a clinger.

Recent events have taken a toll on everyone, and in the meantime the GDF is trying to gather support for a final assault on the Wulgaru warp gate.  This episode is full of big revelations, so I’m not going to say anything else to avoid spoilers.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 8
Xenovia teaches all of us the importance of safe sex.

Issei finally meets his antithesis, the White Dragon Albion, face to face.  Fortunately for Issei, Albion isn’t looking for a fight… yet.  This leaves Issei free to continue dreaming about becoming a harem king while making everyone one of his regular classmates jealous.  The week Issei and friends also meet one of the four Great Overlords, whom also happens to be a sexy magical girl.  Damn, this show just keeps getting better…

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 7
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
This dude is a machine.

Kaima has fallen ill from rushing to help Kanon without taking care of himself.  Not only does this not stop his conquest scheme, he uses it to his advantage.  Take a seat, OG’s and pimps, this is the work of a true master.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 8
(The Sunday without God)
This is one of the craziest casts of characters I have seen in a while.

The plan to escape the school is nearly complete, and the final breakout is to begin in another day or so.  When Ai discovers some of her fellow students would rather stay behind than escape, she attempts to coerce them into leaving with her insane positivity.  Just for added awesome points, there is a tiny bit of badass gun slinging to look forward too.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 8
School uniform Shinobu is ridiculously adorable.

Araragi and Shinobu end up much farther into the past than the expected, by about 11 years.  Araragi decides that he should take advantage of this opportunity to change the fate of an old friend.  This somehow involves Araragi chasing little girls around the neighborhood…

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 7 (Last week’s episode should have been “6.5”, ~oh!)
Little girls have objectified and taken ownership of an innocent young man. Checkmate, feminists.

Maho’s father invites Subaru and the girls to his Mansion, somehow confusing the event for an arranged marriage between Subaru and Maho.  Since he happens to be fabulously wealthy, he offers Subaru just about anything he can think of as an apology.  This leads to Maho’s father funding a huge basketball tournament that challenges loliballers from around Japan.  Yes, this episode has what you all came here to see: lolis playing basketball.  Prepare for a cliffhanger ending at halftime.

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 8
I really hope this guy gets killed by one of the dolls somehow.

There isn’t much noteworthy to mention from this episode.  Jun goes to work, helps his friend out with her play, works on his doll, and his boss is still a cockmongler.  I’m sure they are going somewhere with this…

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episodes 7&8
Never take candy from strangers, even if they claim to be scientists.

Did you miss not getting a fix of sexy girls in song-powered combat gear?  I sure did.  Things get pretty crazy over these two episodes, and since a lot of fans are playing catch-up, I’m not going to say anything to avoid spoiling the fun.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 20
(Attack on Titan)
As bad as this looks, she deserves everything she gets.

The female titan has been captured, and everyone is eager to find out if she is another human capable of transforming into a titan.  As usual, she is one step ahead of everyone, and manages to defend the nape of her neck even while captive.  What else could possibly go wrong?

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 19
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Children really should be afraid of tsundere’s that shoot lightning.

The Railgun “filler arc” continues.  Despite the grumbling amongst some fans, however, I don’t really think these episodes are much different from what happens between major conflicts, and they are still quite fun to watch.  For those looking for extra Railgun fun, the fansub community has put out MMR (Much More Railgun) 3 from the BD’s, the latest of the ridiculous shorts where the show’s creators go crazy.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 7
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
I typically consider this an “awesome” day.

Summer break has arrived, and Tomoko does what she always does, playing games, watching anime, and surfing the internet.  For some reason she becomes concerned that she is “wasting” her summer, so she decides to make an attempt at becoming an internet idol. Things only go south from here.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: August 12th– August 18th

This week’s episode of Symphogear won’t be covered, due to a lack of subtitles.  There is no simulcast for Symphogear, so it only available via fansubbing, and the shows only willing translator was diagnosed with a serious case of sand in his vagina or something, so this and several shows got backed up.  Hopefully we will get caught up by next week, but either way there is still lots of great stuff to watch this week.  Oh, and Oreimo finally ended, so won’t you stick around and rage with me for a bit?

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 6
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
And she hasn’t even transformed yet…

The anime further encroaches on Neptunia V territory this week, this time covering the Lastation Hack story arc from the game.  This story arc is Neptunia’s take on the real-life PSN hack, complete with an eccentric and flamboyant villain to represent Anonymous, “Anonydeath.”  I can’t say enough how well this anime has captured the events and humor of all three games in such a short run.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 7
That courtroom is getting rather empty…

After a quick investigation, the trial phase begins.  Trial episodes are fun to watch, but make for terrible discussion because of potential spoilers.  Tune in and find out which student gets the elaborate monobear execution this week!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 6
Ilya ain’t nuthin to fuck with.

Okay, so far this show has been fun, cute, and a bit goofy at times, all in a good way.  The one thing I didn’t expect from this show was the most awesome fight scene of this season.  Just go and watch it, and be totally fucking amazed.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 19
One small step for man, one giant leap into Wulgaru territory.

With humanity’s forces battered from the Wulgaru’s latest attack, it has become clear that mankind will be finished should the Wulgaru attack earth again.  Knowing this, the GDF has come up with a plan to destroy the gate that the Wulgaru use to enter the Solar system, but the problem is it lies past Saturn, a part of the solar system no man has been able to reach yet.  With team Rabbit’s machines under repair, team Rhino will be sent on a recon mission using a new sub-light speed drive.  As usual, everyone will prepare for this important mission by watching porn.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 7
I wish demons would keep me safe.

The inevitable swimsuit episode is finally upon us.  Things go better than expected when a topless catfight breaks out.  Xenovia begging to become pregnant was also surprising.  All I’ve learned from this is that demons are awesome, and we should all strive to reach their overall greatness.  This episode features new opening and ending sequences.  I’ve watched the ending sequence at least 3 times so far, and it gets better every time.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 6
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
One of these days I really have to try actual Japanese ramen.

This time Kaima moves on to the girl in the library.  I have to admit I did not care much for her story arc when it happened earlier in the series, so I wasn’t thrilled with having to see more of her.  Not a bad episode, but not great, either.  Your mileage may vary.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 7
(The Sunday without God)
The city of dead people was friendlier.

Ai’s travels continue, and this time she enrolls in school.  The problem is, the school is described by the students as a “concentration camp”, and anyone who leaves has to get past a gunslinger/teacher.  Things get even stranger when Ai learns about the people that the school has been gathering here.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 7
Seriously, you can do this shit with a microwave and a cell phone these days.

As I expected, this show suddenly got good again as soon as the last story arc ended.  Araragi and Shinobu are loafing around and discussing the disappearance of Mayoi, and this somehow ends with time travel.  Wow, I guess this is gonna be fun after all…

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai :  Episodes 14, 15&16
(My Little Sister Can’t be This Cute, AKA Oreimo)
No, this wasn’t a mistake, Oreimo ends like a 2D version of the Jerry Springer show, complete with bullshit and fistfights.

The grand finale of Oreimo is here, much to the rage-inducing excitement of fans around the world.  I already mentioned how this season was a major disappointment compared to the first, and this ending only brings the final result to a complete crash and burn.  There is a lot of rage amongst fans about this ending, and it isn’t because of “which girl won.”  No matter what your opinion is about this show, I don’t know of anyone that can watch the final scene without having “Wow, that was fucking stupid.” as a final thought.  I can’t help but think all of this was just grandstanding by the author of the series to stir up the fans for a publicity stunt; and while this has certainly been an effective advertising campaign, it also rendered a once fun and charming series into something trashy, melodramatic, and insultingly stupid.  No one should subject themselves to these three episodes, but every Oreimo fan is going to anyway, so sit down and enjoy the rage.

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 7
Aw, I guess we can forgive you for a recap episode, Tomoka.

This is a recap episode, with an odd twist.  Half of this episode has the first half of an OVA that was included with the Ro-Kyu-Bu PSP game that came out a few months ago.  The fansub community has been nice enough to put subtitles on this OVA shortly after it came out, so if you really need a dose of NBA lolis this week, go check it out.  Chances are, you already have.

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 7
Don’t worry, I’m sure screwing with time will work out.

Jun from the “unwound” world is busy at work trying to make a new doll in hopes of changing his crappy life.  Unfortunately, as the famous Admiral Ackbar says, “It’s a trap!”  Jun from the “wound” world is desperately trying to stop his alternate self from setting off a disaster.  What does any of this have to do with adorable dolls?  We will have to wait and find out…

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 19
(Attack on Titan)
She loves her work.

With the female titan nearly about to stomp on Eren and his group, Eren contemplates using his titan power to save everyone.  Upon being told to have faith in his comrades, Eren ponders some of his recent memories from when his power was being researched.  Can human ingenuity stop the female titan, or is it going to take some titan berserker rage to get the job done?

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 18
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Misaka should have known better than to say something like this to Kuroko.

This is a fairly easy-going episode about the reunion of Uiharu and her hospitalized roommate before they move into a new apartment.  They typical, Railgun-branded slice of life antics are all here for your enjoyment.  Don’t worry; Academy City is still working hard to combine science and cute girls for the purpose of pure evil in the background.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 6
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
High quality “female-dominated” media.

After a night of playing eroge games, Tomoko notices she finally has a day without bags under her eyes.  With the “well researched” advice found in women’s magazines, Tomoko comes up with the crazy idea that staying up all night playing eroge games is the secret to beauty.  I’m sure you know where this is going, but let’s face it, it is even more fun to watch.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: August 5th– August 11th

Railgun and Monogatari are taking a break this week, so things will be a bit slow.  I’d like to take this opportunity to mention that I’ve had trouble getting around to watching the Madoka films, so the likelihood of them being covered in this article by now is pretty much zero.  I know I said I would cover them, but a seemingly endless series of mishaps (including a pair of broken glasses I have been dealing with for over a week) has pretty much prevented me from getting to them in a timely manner; and I’m sure they have been discussed to death everywhere for weeks now.  The good news is, I’m still nice enough to watch tons of anime from this week and write about it while dealing with severe eye strain and headaches, just for you.  You’re welcome.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 5
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Just for the record, Uni is best imouto.

The little sisters continue their fight to rescue their goddess siblings, each one learning to transform along the way.  This episode is heavy on the action, something that was surprising even to me.  It looks like the storyline is going to get into some stuff from Neptunia V, especially since a new character appears this week!

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 6
Uh oh, looks like someone is getting too much screentime…

This week monobear has added more incentive to encourage murder:  a huge cash prize.  It isn’t long before two, yes I said two, students are killed.  Now that the show has begun to follow a set formula, one of its glaring flaws is becoming more apparent, in that this show has been ridiculously predictable.  I’m not saying this isn’t fun to watch, but I will say that you will know which students will die this week in less than 10 minutes.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 5
It is kind of strange seeing Saber in the role of villain.

Ilya and Miyu defeat caster only to end up against a ridiculously overpowered Saber.  “Dark” Saber is apparently nothing to mess with, forcing the girls to come up with some crazy ideas in hopes of simply making it out alive.  Fun Fact:  The occupation of magical girl takes second place for deadliest occupation next to crab fishing.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 18
Yes, the fight from this episode is that awesome.

This week has one of the best fight scenes in MJP yet, and even more jaw-dropping fighting animation from this show’s awesome CG team.  This show still has several more episodes to air, and I can already say this has been one of the best mecha anime (outside of Gundam) to air in a long time.  Everyone that is sticking with this keeps getting rewarded, and those that didn’t should certainly give this show another look.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 6
Issei truly is the greatest of heroes.

The battle to save the city continues, and the perverse antics take a backseat for even more action.  Don’t worry, I’m still sure you don’t go a span of more than 3 minutes without seeing a bare breast.  There are some pretty big spoilers this week, so I won’t go into detail about what happens.  Next week is a swimsuit episode, and considering how hot the cast of characters is, yes, that was important enough to mention.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 5
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
Kaima will do anything for love, including THAT.

The god of conquest has run into a unique target:  A girl that is looking to conquer him.  Since this girl is tomboyish enough to wear men’s clothing, Kaima has to up the ante and show up to school in a dress.  Try not to die of laughter during an entire episode of Kaima’s becoming a cute girl.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 6
(The Sunday without God)
Cute, but deadly.

Ai’s adventures in the city of Ortus continue.  There is a lot of interesting stuff that goes on in this episode, and I feel I should the show speak for itself this week, especially due to some spoilers.  Don’t miss this one.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 6
Yes, you have been nothing but trouble.

A recap episode, in case you can’t remember how boring this story arc was.  Ugh.

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 6
Nothing like misplaced panties to start a fistfight.

Summer break has come and Aoi has won a vacation for two in Kyoto.  Of course she is going to take Subaru along, and maybe even some sleezy underwear.  Just when she thinks she can finally get his attention for a few days, it seems that the girls from Subaru’s team are also going to the same hotel.  There will be misunderstandings.

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 6They are so adorable when they are angry!

While the dolls continue to squabble with one another, Jun begins to realize how much his life sucks in this timeline.  Now that he knows it is possible to travel to different timelines, Jun wonders if it is possible to change the past, and hopefully not end up working for a dickhead manager at a bookstore.  I guess that is as good enough an excuse for time travel as any other one…

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episode 6
W-what has science done…

It should be fairly predictable as to what happens when Hibiki gets mad by now, but I’m going to err on the side of caution and not give anything away.  This was another interesting episode, but there are some pretty big spoilers everywhere.  I’ll be nice enough to let my fellow Symphogear fans catch up before continuing discussion next week.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 18
(Attack on Titan)
But they seem so happy…

The “female” titan has proven to be one of the deadliest titans to appear.  She understands the tactics and 3D maneuver gear well enough to fend off any kind of attack, and she responds with brutal retaliation to any attacks.  Can a detour through an ancient forest make a difference in the fight against one of the deadliest titans of them all?

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode – Special
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Will this be the sexiest women Touma punches in the face?

Railgun isn’t airing this week, but I’m making mention of that here because they aired a special in its place.  The special is a 22 minute long preview for the upcoming Index movie, which looks like it will be pretty damn awesome.  If you are interested in watching it, you will have to jump through some hoops, but there are some cool dudes out there nice enough to make subtitles for the special.  Episode 18 of Railgun airs next week.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 5
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
At least this idea doesn’t involve getting raped on a train.

Tomoko’s plans to become popular continue, this time with some inspiration from anime.  Tomoko decides that she should be able to pull of the “cute, quiet” (AKA Dandere) character type, because what works in anime must work in real life, right?  This somehow turns into a series of serious mental breakdowns in assorted locations.  Another great episode.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: July 29th– August 4th

This coming week is a big one for fans of Japanese games.  Both Tales of Xillia and Dragon Crown come out on August 6th in the US, so be sure to check them out when you aren’t getting your weekly dose of anime.  As for anime, a few shows have some pretty shocking events this week, so be sure to catch up on your favorites!

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 4
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Every time a little sister transforms, Bob Mackey cries bitch tears.

Arfore has trapped all of the Goddesses with the crystals she has collected, leaving behind IF, Compa, and the CPU candidates.  If you played Neptunia Mk.2, you should know where this is going.  This week’s episode ends with a pretty nice action scene, and the show continues to deliver beyond my expectations.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 5
Touko is also the member of a KISS cover band.

There is nothing like a dead trap in the locker room to put a damper on everyone’s day.  This only means one thing:  It’s time for another classroom trial.  The typical events of this trial are spiced up when a series of disturbing secrets about some of the students are revealed.  Be sure to stick around for another of Monobear’s elaborate punishments!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 4
Ilya learns the importance of hiding your powerlevel amongst normals.

Ilya and Miyu team up for their first fight together, which ends in brutal defeat.  Everyone decides the best way to beat this opponent involves using magical flight, a skill Ilya takes to easily, while Miyu struggles with the concept.  Unfortunately for Miyu, learning to fly will involve being tossed out of a helicopter and watching a marathon of anime.   This week’s episode is lots of fun, and the awesome fight scene at the end is the icing on the cake.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 17
No, but you do hold the title for best rack, Tamaki.

The Wulgaru have discovered the academy that trained the pilots of MJP is also home to the GDF’s genetic engineering program, and they are racing to the earth to steal the genetic data.  Meanwhile, the remainder of GDF’s fleet is being annihilated on the front lines.  Can Team Rabbits save the academy and the rest of the Earth from being harvested by the Wulgaru?  .

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 5
No, Issei is THE man.

Rias and her minions are up against one of the most powerful fallen angels, as well as the rogue Excalibur swords, and one mistake will result in Issei’s hometown being wiped off the map.  There is lots of action in this episode, and just in case you were worried, the geniuses behind this show still managed to deliver on boobs.  This episode was nothing short of awesome, a shining example of how a good ecchi anime is done.  There are people out there that will tell you shows like this are killing the artistic integrity of anime, and those are the kind of people you should ignore at all costs.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 4
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
This isn’t going well…

Kaima continues his efforts to reawaken the Goddesses.  Tough times lie ahead for our unwilling ladies’ man, as he faces jealousy from a girl with telekinetic powers.  And people wonder why Kaima prefers 2D girls…

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 5
(The Sunday without God)
Scar tells it like it is.

Strangely enough, Ai’s visit to Ortus has been rather safe, considering she is in “enemy” territory.  Ai continues to explore Ortus, learning about its people and the disturbing origins of her new friend, Kiriko.  The mystery grows deeper when Scar develops a strange illness and Ai manages to visit the Princess of Ortus.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 5
The final, FINAL confrontation with Hysteria tiger.

Tsubasa has finally decided to face the tiger, for real this time.  Now that she has come to terms with the fact that this is the SECOND oddity born from her shitty personality, she summons the aid of her “other” self, the first oddity born from her shitty personality.  This episode not only wraps up this story arc, but 5 episodes in the main character finally arrives.  Yay!

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 5
Bow before the might of Gilgamesh, filthy mongrels!

Everyone has begun training in hopes of defeating Subaru’s old enemy in a rematch.  Of course this involves a few awkward and easily misunderstood situations before the match.  Can Subaru and his league of lolis defeat the king of kings?  Will fansub groups be able to resist using the word “mongrel?”  Watch and find out!

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 5
Suigintou returns with her delightful charm.

While Jun toils away at work for his douchebag of a boss, Suigintou shows up to cause some trouble.  Much of this episode is focused on Suigintou’s story of how she found her servant, which is very similar to what happened in the original series.  So far this has been the best episode of this show, and it looks like there is still much more to look forward to.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episode 5
This guy fucking LOVES science.

I’m not going to candy coat things for fans that haven’t watched this yet.  This episode is infamous for its shocking ending, and even with this knowledge, your jaw will drop to the floor.  I’m not going to spoil anything, but prepare for despair.  I guess SnK isn’t the only show looking to dish out sadness this season…

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 17
(Attack on Titan)
Will Sasha survive to steal more potatoes?

The mission to venture deep into titan territory finally begins, with a creative formation tactic being used in hopes of keeping everyone alive.  Everything seems to be going great until a very unique “abnormal” titan shows up, because there is always the need for more despair in this show.  Be sure to watch and see how many troops meet an untimely and gruesome death this week!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 17
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Kuroko demonstrates polite behavior in a family restaurant as an upstanding member of Judgment.

Now that the sisters are safe and getting properly cared for, Misaka can finally hang out with her friends and relax.  This week’s episode also features a new OP animation, which gives a little taste of things to look forward to for the rest of the season.  In the meantime, enjoy the cute and fun antics of Misaka and friends, including a hilariously awkward moment where Misaka runs into a couple members of ITEM in a family restaurant.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 4
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
Hindsight is always 20/20.

Tomoko’s insanity grows worse by the minute, as this time she becomes jealous of another student that was molested on the local train.  Tomoko soon goes on a quest to find out if anyone would really want to molest her, in what is perhaps one of the worst ideas of all time.  If this wasn’t bad enough, all she learns is that maybe guys would like her more if she wore expensive panties…

Weekly Anime Round-Up: July 22nd – July 28th

Collectors of anime figures and toys should know that this week was the Wonderfest, which is basically the E3 of wallet-destroying plastic.  This week also marks the first victim of the fall anime season, as I decided to drop one of the shows.  Try to guess which one!  … Or you can just read on and find out, I guess.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 3
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
The first gaming peripheral to bear the official NSA seal of approval.

This time the goddesses continue their world tour in the lovely nation of Leanbox.  As the girls pitch in to fix up the party Vert botched by sitting around playing an online RPG, evil is brewing.  It looks like the CPU candidates will have to step up very soon.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 4
Best girl detected.

As everyone tries to deal with the insane results of the trial, benevolent Monobear opens up access to another floor of the academy.  Monobear soon grows bored with everyone simply exploring the new facilities, so he decides to give out everyone’s personal secrets in hopes of inspiring some more murderous fun.  As expected, there will be murder.  Be sure to tune in and find out who dies!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 3
The magical wands aren’t as malicious as Kyubey, but they make up for it by being annoying.

Ilya now has competition for the class cards, and like any other magical girl show, she is also the mysterious new transfer student.  The show is uses these cliché’s as part of its self-aware humor, for better or worse.  This episode is mostly devoted to explaining how the class cards work and setting up some future events, so it wasn’t exactly thrilling.  Fortunately there was just enough humor around to keep this episode enjoyable.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou: Il Sole Penetra le Illusioni:  Episode 4
(Day Break Illusion)
Done.

This episode pretty much dashed any hopes I had from last week about this not being a Madoka clone.  Fans of the show around the internets love to complain about everyone comparing this show to Madoka, while at the same time praising it for being like Madoka.  These fans will not be pleased with where this conversation is going.  Once the “monster of the week” appears, there is no denying the style and design are nothing more than a lame look-alike of a witch from Madoka.  The clichéd, sloppy storytelling and the boring, repetitive action sequences aren’t helping this show out, either.  Dropped.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 16
Surely the government of the future has great ideas. Right?

Izuri has recovered, but his friends and superiors have growing concerns about the side-effects of the Julia System.  As the members team Rabbits rest up, the Nations of Earth gather together to squabble over weapons deals and mining rights with mankind’s true enemy literally at their doorstep.  Of course this isn’t going to go well…

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 4
Must… resist… incredibly hot Christians…

Issei and his friends finally track down Freed, only to lose him once again and get caught making deals with the church behind Rias’s back.  There will be sexy cooking time, and yes, it was vital that I mention this.  Things get pretty serious this week, and so the battle between good and evil (more like somewhat good and really fucking malicious) is about to begin!

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 3
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
The only man who has figured out women.

Kaima begins his plan to romance 5 girls at once to awaken the goddesses and save Kanon.  As expected, nothing goes quite as planned, and time is running out.  Can Kaima pull off what countless selfish teenagers, wealthy playboys, and politicians have tried to do for centuries?

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 4
(The Sunday without God)
I’m sure it’s lovely this time of year.

Ai’s journey to save the world begins, strangely enough in a VW minibus.  Whey they discover a stowaway passed out in the backseat of the van, their travels turn to a place known as “the city of the dead.”  There is no false advertising here, as this city is a gathering place for the dead that is over a million strong, a place where gravekeepers are killed on sight and the living aren’t welcome.  And of course, Ai wants to check it out anyway…

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 4
I don’t think anyone in this show is ever ordinary

Well, here we are four episodes in, Tsubasa is still aimlessly pondering what to do, and the main character still hasn’t shown up yet.  This series was never known for quick pacing, but this has to be the worst story arc of them all.  It looks like it is drawing to a close, and I honestly can’t wait (maybe I’m just biased, because I don’t really care much for Tsubasa in comparison to the other characters).  I’m only holding on to this show because of how much I loved the rest of it, but the molasses-slow pacing of this story arc has been a bit too much.

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 4
Subaru’s arch nemesis: Gilgamesh, king of all kings.

Subaru gets a chance to meet Airi’s older brother, which somehow results in a swift punch to the face.  Things go from bad to worse when Subaru’s old rival shows up with a pair of middle school girls to destroy him on the court.  It’s gonna take a montage…

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 4
Now I remember why porcelain dolls scare the shit out of me.

Future Jun has figured out how to finish the temporary vessel for Shinku, but he has also become involved in much more than he could possibly expect.  He quickly learns that Shinku is an adorable, yet harsh mistress, whom has a zero-tolerance policy towards shit tea.  Just when it seems getting yelled at by a doll to make tea seems bad enough, there is a creepy-ass doll stalking him through mirrors.  She probably isn’t looking for tea.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episode 4
Fine’ ain’t nuthin’ to fuck with.

Another week, another awesome episode of Symphogear.  The battle from last week’s episode continues, in another action-packed frenzy of over-the-top fighting to the tune of Idol music.  We are also treated to the cuteness of Chris-chan being put on the spot to sing for the school’s talent competition.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 16
(Attack on Titan)
It’s really a wonderful kingdom, except for the man-eating titans everywhere.

An investigation begins to find out who killed the captured titans, and it seems the new recruits are under the most scrutiny.  Meanwhile, the rest of the recruits are faced with the decision of which branch of the military to join.  I think by now we all know where a few of them are bound to go…

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 16
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Now the MISAKA’s are free to do what they do best: Embarrass Biribiri.

Touma has finally taught Accelerator how to live his life correctly, and he can finally return to his unlucky life of being bitten by Index and punching assholes in the face wherever they stand.  Meanwhile, Misaka finally gets the chance to spend time with her “sisters” and be incredibly cute and tsundere whenever Touma is around.  It looks like things will go back to some more lighthearted fun around Academy City with the girls for a bit, and to be perfectly honest, I’m totally okay with that.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 3
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
Because every high school girl dreams of becoming a professional sniper.

As usual, Tomoko’s terrible social skills and constant fear of her fellow students get the best of her.  Tomoko copes with this in the only way that she can, through self-indulgent fantasies of becoming a professional assassin out of an anime and her incredibly angry inner dialogue.  Tomoko is a terrible person in dire need of psychotropic medication, and that is what makes her so wonderful.
