Weekly Anime Round-Up: September 16th– September 22nd

Hell yeah motherfucker!

This week there is an official announcement that music-festival mascot “Super Sonico” is getting her very own anime.  Why is it important to mention some random mascot is getting an animated series based on little more than heavy merchandizing and tons of random artwork?  Because she is really hot, that’s why.  This season is finally reaching the end, with only one week left.  This means there is still one week remaining to put up suggestions for the fall anime season!  Remember, no insanely long shonen (Big 3) stuff.  At this point I’ve pretty much set out my plans for what I’m planning to include in the round-up, but I’m still willing to make room for a suggestion or two.  As usual, I’ve got a little of something for everyone.  Oh yeah, no Symphogear this week due to a lack of subtitles (again, ugh…), because we can’t have nice things.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 11
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Social justice: Not even once.

Victory from the war with Eden has caused a surge in shares for Planeptune, and Neptune is planning a festival to celebrate.  Unfortunately, all the other nations suffered a huge drop in shares, which is creating enough tension to put the peace treaty in danger.  Just when things seem like they couldn’t get any worse, a certain “social activist” escapes from prison.  Some fans of this show are upset by the sudden “serious” turn the show has taken, I honestly felt most of the complaints are blown way out of proportion; especially since this show has already gone through a “serious” story arc.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 12
He’s so considerate for a sociopathic mastermind.

Monobear has changed the rules of the game.  Now the students must properly solve the last murder from the “mistrial”, AND solve the mystery of this screwed up academy.  Even with the mystery solved, things are only going to get crazier.  The final episode airs next week!

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 24 End
She truly was the greatest mechanic of all time.

We will finally see if mankind manages to defeat the Wulgaru menace in the solar system.  I started watching this with very low expectations (and I thought Valvrave was going to be MUCH better), but this show turned out to be one of the best mecha anime I have seen in a long time.  Valvrave is the mecha show everyone is talking about this year, and while it may be very entertaining; the one advantage MJP has over Valvrave is that the storyline won’t leave you banging your head against the wall.  MJP is a fairly traditional mecha anime that pays homage to many of the great shows that came before its time, with battles brought to life through some of the best CG I’ve seen in TV anime.  Mecha anime outside of the Gundam franchise are hard to come by in recent years, so it’s good to see some great shows come around this year to represent the genre.  This show really doesn’t get the credit it deserves, but we also live in a world where a sizable chunk of anime fans think Sword Art Online was the best anime of 2012.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 12 End
Where do I apply to become a demon?

The time has come for Issei to throw down against his antithesis, Albion.  This battle unfolds in a manner of ridiculous absurdity that can only be found in DxD.  Watch as Issei proves he is a hero above all heroes by fighting to keep breasts as large as possible.  Seriously.  This show was nothing but lewd, low brow humor aimed at the lowest common denominator.  That is why it is a masterpiece.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 11
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
This episode really is that shocking.

Kaima has one night to finish his conquest of Ayumi, or Vintage wins.  To make matters worse, Chihiro is still upset with Kaima for toying with her, and now she’s meddling in his plans.  Will Kaima be able to save Earth from rouge demons, or will mankind be extinguished because of the raging emotions of heartbroken teenage girls?

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 12 End
(The Sunday without God)
Aw crap, Dee went crazy.

It’s time for the final episode in this crazy trip through post-apocalyptic wastelands and strange landmarks.  This episode has some big surprises, so I won’t give anything away.  This is a really cool story, and I would love to see more, but since the anime was produced just to promote the source material, that isn’t likely.  Either way, this one is worth a look for anyone interested in something a little different.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 12 (11 was another recap)
Little girls shouldn’t play with oddities.

Now that adventures in vampire time travel are finished, it’s time to move on to the next tale of oddities and crazy girls.  This time Nadeko is back, because this girl just can’t seem to stop messing with snakes.  It seems crucifying all those snakes back in the first season has come back to haunt Nadeko, literally.

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 11
Not in my house!

The final game is underway, and Rena soon realizes she don’t know shit about loliballin’.  That doesn’t mean that the rest of her team is going to hand over victory, however.  Next week we see the conclusion to this intense game (and maybe even figure out what Tomoka is planning.)!

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 12
Remember when this was actually ABOUT the Alice game?

This week the show is tying up its loose ends in the slow, painful death that has become the ending.  There is lots of discussion about the Alice game, even though it is pretty obvious the show isn’t going to cover that story arc. There is still one episode left, but the preview for next week pretty much killed any hopes of something interesting happening.  I could honestly drop this without a second thought, but I’ll stick through it since I’ve made it this far.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 24
(Attack on Titan)
Dis gon’ be good.

I’ll be nice to the slowpokes that aren’t keeping up, so I won’t divulge the identity of the female titan.  With the covert operation to capture here gone terribly wrong, another battle unfolds within one of the “safest” parts of the kingdom.  Next week is the final episode, and that makes me really sad.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 23
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Mental illness and illusions of grandeur are prerequisites for any science major.

The quest to save Febri has uncovered a conspiracy of scientists planning a revolution in Academy City.  Time is running out, so Misaka and her friends have no choice but to face the STUDY Corporation and its army of 20,000 robots by themselves; because Academy City is the most morally bankrupt place on earth.  Can Misaka, a pocket full of loose change, and some cute friends save the city from corporate terrorism?

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 11
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
I’ll be perfectly honest, I’m not really sure Tomoko DESERVES to have friends.

Much like swimsuit episodes and hot springs episodes, the school festival is an inevitable tradition for any anime that takes place during high school.  The interesting thing about this school festival episode is that it comes from the perspective of someone with a severe social anxiety problem and a terrible attitude.  Tomoko invites her old friend to join in on the fun… and creepiness.

Extra Anime of the Week:
Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu
(Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class C³)
Would you?

This is a show I wasn’t originally planning on picking up, but after reading a summer preview article written by Anime News Network’s professional troll, Zac Bertschy, I just had to watch this.  Why?  Because the Author made the audacious claim that a show about cute girls playing airsoft is a form of gun fetishism that potentially causes the mass shootings that plague America, and I had to see exactly how full of shit this douchebag really was.  (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/preview-guide/2013/the-summer-anime/zac  Seriously, give this thing a read for some great laughs.  It gets really good when he previews Free and goes on a tirade about how fanservice aimed at males is for creeps, but fanservice aimed at females and homosexual men is fun and charming.  How progressive!)

So what did I find when I picked up an anime that some idiot blames for a social/political problem that has existed for decades in a nation on the other side of the globe?  A really great show, actually.  Stella is the latest entry tapping into the military/moe/sport craze that recently blew up thanks to Girls und Panzer.  It is pretty much a show about cute girls playing airsoft, but thanks to the brilliantly animated “imagination” of the main character and some really interesting character development, this show fleshes out to become much more than meets the eye.  The subject of airsoft itself seems to be fairly well researched, and the show may even have the potential to spark some interest in the game for some people.  An interesting cast of characters and a series of odd events and developments keep things entertaining beyond all the airsoft; but the “battles” and the over-the-top “gunplay” make this show really fun to watch.  This anime seems to attract the crowd of fans that enjoyed shows like Upotte and Girls und Panzer, and I can say this show may be your cup of tea if you enjoyed that stuff.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: September 9th– September 15th

This week Ilya wraps up, but with the promise of a new season.  Monogatari doesn’t air this week, but I’ve got a bit of a bonus for the next few weeks.  As usual, I picked up a few shows that I didn’t include in the round-up for various reasons, but I’m going to mention some of the ones I really enjoyed as an extra feature at the end of the article.  I’d also like to put out a reminder that I’m taking suggestions for shows to include in the fall 2013 round-up, so hit up the comments.  The guidelines for suggestions are in last week’s round up, so check it out.  (Yes, it went up late.  Blame Gillman.  Seriously, he demands the motivation.)

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 10
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
This should be the first sign that Iris Heart is nearby.

Yellow Heart continues her dominance over Gameindustri, and Neptune finds herself helpless to fight against a dear friend.  Can the other goddesses protect Gameindustri and convince Nep-chan to stand up and fight for her people against titty-monster tyranny?  Watch and find out, dear friends.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 11
Somehow I doubt that.

The mysterious sixteenth student was found dead without anyone even seeing his or her face, and a hasty classroom trial has begun.  Nothing seems right about any of this, and Monobear is rushing the trial.  Will anyone survive to solve the mysteries of this screwed up academy?

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 10 End
Friendship is the nuclear weapon for magical girls.

Ilya joins the fight against the terrifying berserker, prepare yourselves for MAXIMUM FRIENDSHIP.  This episode concludes the show, which left me with a much better impression than I expected.  This show played with themes and characters from the Fate universe in a whimsical manner, and it all resulted in pure fun, with a few awesome fight scenes as an unexpected bonus.  I really enjoyed watching this, and apparently lots of viewers in Japan have as well, because the second season is formally announced at the end of this episode!

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 23
Red 5 is back!

The incredible fight to save mankind continues.  The big news this week is Izuru manages to sweet-talk his way back onto the battlefield despite his medical concerns; which also means we get to see him go another round with his Wulgaru rival.  Next week is the final episode!

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 11
Truly the greatest of all demon powers.

The peace summit between the three divine superpowers has begun.  Of course something like this is just bound to run into a couple snags.  Can Issei and his master save the summit and bring peace to Earth?  Will there be any opportunities for random nudity?  Watch and find out, dear friends.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 10
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
Watch out for that conquest…

Vintage is making its move, so Kaima has to hurry and revive the final goddess.  Since all of this hinges on dealing with romance caught between two best friends with a crush on the same person, of course this is going to be difficult.  Good thing Earth happens to have an expert on the case.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 11
(The Sunday without God)
These are my thoughts every time they visit another place.

Alis explains more about this strange, time-looping realm to Ai, along with his plan to free everyone from it.  Unfortunately, someone keeps coming along and “fixing” everything Alis tries to change.  Watch and find out which student has a thing for time-loops…

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 10
B-but that’s not the true spirit of basketball!

Rena, slayer of loliballers, has infuriated the 5th graders to the point where they are willing to unite with their rivals for vengeance. Can the veterans teach their new team members the true art of loliballin’?  We’ll have to watch next week for the conclusion of this week’s game!

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 11
And now it’s time for adventures in… clock repair?

Everyone is left standing in a mess of time and space created from the chaos, and now they have to find a way out.  For being so close to the end of this story, things really aren’t that interesting.  It also seems that fans agree; as rumor has it this show has performed so poorly there is talk of it being cancelled.  While this would be an odd decision, seeing as there are only two episodes left, I can understand why it could come to this.  At this point I’m only sticking through because of how much I enjoyed the original series.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episodes 11
Tales of Symphogear

We should all be thankful that there are subtitles this week, because we are entering the final episodes of this awesome show!  Things are very interesting this week, but it’s likely you will notice this episode suffered from some production issues.  Let’s all hope the conclusion to this doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 23
(Attack on Titan)
Wait, what’s so funny?

It doesn’t seem much is going on in this episode, but the last bit at the end is where everything comes together.  You better believe there are spoilers, which means I’ve got nothing more to say.  Next week’s episode should be pretty damn awesome.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 22
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Nothing like hanging out with an old friend…

Misaka has a bittersweet reunion with one of Academy City’s finest, in hopes of digging up some information to save Febri.  It seems that the league of evil scientists behind Febri’s creation has also gone on bad terms with ITEM, and as a bonus we can all enjoy, we get a bit of ITEM-service this week.  Unfortunately for the girls, it seems even scientists without any esper abilities are nothing to mess with.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 10
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
Well, at least Tomoko made a new friend…

After a disappointingly uneventful summer, Tomoko returns to school.  A sudden change to seating in class leaves her without a place to eat her lunch, which eventually leads her on a quest to find a special place to be alone.  To be honest this is one of those episodes that seems more sad than funny, depending on how you look at it.

Extra Anime of the Week:
Gatchaman Crowds
Yes, this is somehow Gatchaman. Yes, it is actually really good.

Gatchaman Crowds is a very radical reboot of the 70’s Gatchaman TV series, known in the US as G-Force.  That being said, this show has almost nothing in common with its predecessor.  Crowds is a strange tale about the “Gatchamen”, specially chosen heroes that do battle with aliens in secret.  This appears to be a very plain superhero story, but don’t let that fool you- this show is as unusual as it gets, in a good way.  The Gatchamen are a rather strange and flamboyant collection of characters, even by anime standards, and the world they fight in is even stranger and more mysterious.  Crowds has an odd, yet bold and colorful art direction, a storyline so strange you can’t seem to stop watching it, and what has to some of the catchiest music in all of anime.  Even though I didn’t include this show in the round-up on a weekly basis, this is one of my favorites of the season.  If you’re open minded and looking for something fresh and unique, I highly recommend this show.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: September 2nd– September 8th

Symphogear is back, and despite all the fansub chaos I’ve gone against my word and decided to cover two episodes at once again.  I’m sure it will be delayed again next week, but I can’t help it, Symphogear has been really fucking good.  I’ve already mentioned a couple times that I am planning out what I’ll be watching for this fall, and after a recent chat with a couple of readers during a stream on the Varms Twitch channel, I’ve decided to try something a little different.

As usual, I’m going to pick up shows that interest me, but this time around I’d like to ask the readers what shows they would like to see for the fall anime round-up.  I won’t be able to take on everyone’s requests for obvious reasons, but I could certainly pick up one or two extra shows if the request is popular enough.  I’m going to ignore any requests to cover insanely long battle shonen that consist of hundreds of episodes with no end in sight (One Piece, Naruto, etc.), and the same rules I have for my own picks will apply to any shows I pick up from reader suggestions.  This means if I don’t care for a show after giving it a fair shot, it gets dropped.  If this will potentially upset you, never forget the #1 rule of anime enjoyment:  my taste > your taste.

If you are wondering how to find out what shows will be airing this fall, google “fall 2013 anime chart” and common sense should guide you the rest of the way.  Place your suggestions in the comments section below this article.  For a bit of extra fun, give me a brief explanation of why you are looking forward to the show you want to suggest, bonus points for creativity.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 9
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Yellow Heart can have all of my shares.

Peashy has been reunited with her “mother”, and fans of Neptunia V should know what this means.  Now the goddesses set out to investigate a new nation that suddenly rose to power.  Prepare yourself for the rise of one of Gameindusri’s greatest goddesses.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 10
Monobear is clearly a Bank of America investor.

The remaining handful of students are now getting closer than ever to figuring out how and why they ended up in this crazy school, and this seems to be upsetting to Monobear.  There is lots of spoilery stuff here, so I won’t go into detail.  Oh, and someone dies, not that such an occurrence is out of the ordinary for this show.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 9
Loli Saber doesn’t fuck around.

Ilya gets a rare chance to hang out with her mother, and the two ladies have a heart-to-heart about the importance of standing by friends in need.  Meanwhile, Miyu is fighting for her life against the final and most powerful class card.  Once again, we are treated to yet another unexpectedly awesome, action-packed episode.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 22
I for one, welcome our new Wulgaru overlords.

The final battle for the survival of the human race has begun.  This can only mean another epic space battle, brought to life with the amazing and well-blended CG animation that makes this show a delight to watch.  Great things are sure to come in the next episode or so, and I can’t wait to see how this ends.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 10
Living the dream.

Issei has an unusual meeting with the leader of the angels, and receives a pretty sweet upgrade for his boosted gear.  As Rias prepares for a upcoming summit between demons, angels, and the fallen, Issei continues to train Gasper in hopes of using his time-stopping ability for perversion.  Yes, stopping time for perversion is apparently very important.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 9
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
Kaima keeps it real.

Kaima screws up, big time.  As much as I’d like to rant about all the feelings this episode gave me, I’d potentially ruin it for the slowpokes, so I’ll be nice and keep my mouth shut.  Watch and be sad my friends…

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 10
(The Sunday without God)
Let’s keep the first few minutes of this episode secret from the mass media.

Ai’s journey leads her to the mysterious place where Alis and Dee have escaped from, long ago.  This new story arc takes us to yet another strange place in this dying world.  I have to admit, I’m really sad this show is going to end soon, because it has been a long, strange trip that I would love to see through to the end, and the only way to do so involves reading the (mostly un-translated)  light novel series.  This story would also make a really great RPG.  Get on it, Japan.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 10
It was almost worth destroying the world to see late-teen Mayoi.

Araragi and Shinobu’s adventures in time continue.  Araragi meets up with the grown-up version of Mayoi, whom has been sent to deliver a letter from an old friend looking for help.  Now Araragi and Shinobu are hunting down the Shinobu from this timeline, the destroyer of this world.  This entire story arc has been really awesome, and I hope this trend keeps up.

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 9
Why does basketball make everyone so evil?

The tournament was a success, but now Subaru has to find a way to merge bitter rivals into a full team.  While this seems impossible, the girls are all united as a team for one purpose: Revenge.  Oh, and for whatever reason the girls are doing a lot of cooking for a local food festival.  Enjoy!

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 10
Whore.

Kirakishou has taken form in the real world, and she has the potential to devour mankind, should she be left to her own devices.  Since letting humanity get snuffed out by a doll would be a really lame thing to do, Jun decides he has to make a contract with one of her sisters in hopes of stopping her.  Which doll will Jun pick?

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episodes 9&10
Even Bill Nye will never enjoy science as much as Dr. Ver.

Two episodes of Symphogear got subtitles this week, and it still isn’t enough of this awesome show.  Awesome fights, montages with Rocky references, plot twists, and surprise betrayals are just some of the surprises awaiting Symphogear fans this week.  This show has been a blast to watch, and it is easily one of my favorites of the year.  Let’s all hope we get subs for next weeks’ episode on time!

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 22
(Attack on Titan)
Levi is one badass motherfucker.

The highlight of this episode is a brief but very cool scene where we all get to see why Levi has the right to talk down on everyone around him, and why he has every right to do so.  This week I realized that there are only three episodes left of this show.  That makes me really sad.  This is going to probably be one of the rare occasions where I will force myself to find the time to catch up on the manga when this show ends.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 21
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Saten learns the truth behind “anonymous political donors.”

Misaka discovers that adorable little Febri is a creation of science, and that she needs to eat special lollipops to live.  No, seriously.  This time she decides to open up to her friends for help, and it seems none of them have a problem with lifting a finger up at Academy City’s underground “evil science” industry.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 9
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
The cake really is a lie.

Tomoko is reaching the final stretch of her summer break.  After her one and only friend blows her off for the last thing Tomoko was looking forward to, Tomoko decides to take on a part-time job making cakes.  Of course this isn’t going to end well.

Weekly Anime Round-Up: August 26th– September 1st

It’s Labor Day weekend here in the US, but why bother going out drinking beer around the grill in that disgusting summer heat when you could be inside, drinking beer and watching anime?  That is what you should have done, anyway, since lots of great shows are reaching their conclusions soon.  In other, somewhat shocking news this week, world-renowned anime director Miyazaki Hayao has announced his retirement.  Even if you don’t follow anime you have probably heard of his work; some of his bigger films have even been localized by Disney, Princess Mononoke being among the most well known in the west.  While many of his films are aimed at a younger audience, most of them are really amazing and very enjoyable no matter what your age.

Now I’ve got to take a bit to address another matter, the issue of Symphogear.  Symphogear went from being one of the first shows of the week to get subs, to coming out whenever the translator feels like it.  A similar situation popped up earlier this year with Senran Kagura, and this sort of thing happens when there are no simulcasts and the only subs come from a handful of dudes working for free in their spare time.  Instead of constantly skipping around and playing catch up, from this point on I am simply going include each episode one week late and save myself the headache.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 8
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Nepgear falls prey to another of Vert’s traps.

This week’s episode is all about good ‘ol fashioned fanservice, and they even go out of their way to make this clear to the audience.  The goddesses must investigate enemy activity on the mysterious R-18 Island, a place where swimsuits and/or nudity are the mandatory dress code.  You should know what is going to come of this, and I’m sure you all will enjoy it.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 9
I’m really surprised she hasn’t killed anyone yet.

Another corpse, another trial.  The results of this trial are actually surprising, considering that murder is part of school curriculum.  Obviously I’m not going to spoil the fun, so be sure to watch the despair of this week’s episode.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 8
Having “fat storage bags” on your chest can cause jealousy, apparently.

After nearly killing her friends by accident, Ilya decides she’s done with the magical girl game.  Fortunately, her contract doesn’t seem to include the “the only way out is in a body bag” clause that is all the rage in magical girl contracts these days.  However, putting down the wand and leaving behind the pretty dress seems to be giving Ilya a bad feeling…

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 21
You know mankind is desperate when they have even gathered up the crappiest mechs AND brought back the Space Shuttle.

Mankind is assembling everything they have to send out to the Wulgaru warp gate.  Unfortunately, concerns about the side effects of the AHSMB on Izuru’s mind and body are keeping him out of this fight, at least for now.  We are going to have a pretty awesome series of fights to look forward to in the coming episodes; I can assure you of that.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 9
Issei learns the dangers of traps.

Rias is given permission to remove the seal on one of her oldest minions that appears to be a cute vampire girl.  Much to Issei’s disappointment, however, his newest comrade is a cross-dressing boy.  Strangely enough, Issei and Gasper form a bond when Issei learns about Gasper’s time stopping power; and the potential for using it to grope girls frozen in time.

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 8
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
Fun Fact: Maid outfits are great.

Now that Kaima has finally gotten over his cold, he realizes he must find the last goddess as quickly as possible to save Kanon.  To make matters worse, the evil organization Vintage is making their moves as well, and it seems that even the government of New Hell can’t (or won’t) stop them.  Can Kaima save his friend and the universe with pimping skills acquired from years of dating sims?

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 9
(The Sunday without God)
God has even forsaken birthday cake.

Ai has escaped “school”, and her new friends are finally safe.  Now she has decided to join one of her new friends, whom also wants to save the world, albeit with a pretty radical method.  But before Ai can begin her quest to save the world, she’s decided to find Scar, who has suddenly disappeared.  Ai’s journey into the wastelands only continues to get stranger and stranger…

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 9
Aw crap…

Araragi and Shinobu are learning that time travel is a pretty fickle beast, as it seems manipulating the past for a better present sorta… destroyed the world.  Not only is the world destroyed, it is filled with zombies that roam the streets at night.  Oh, and not only are they zombies, they are fucking vampire zombies.  I’m not sure if that makes them more or less dangerous, but either way, Araragi screwed up, big time.  Can this perverted high-school student and his loli vampire save time and space as we know it?

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 8
Child Beer™ is the official beer of the Loli NBA.

The tournament continues, and when everything is over, you will believe that loli’s can fly.  For added hilarity, keep your Space Jam soundtrack handy during this entire episode.  For some reason this episode ends with little girls drinking beer specifically made for… little girls.  Seriously, I’m not creative enough to make this shit up.

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 9
I’ve been waiting for her to call someone junk all season.

Okay, just when I thought things were getting too slow, the shit hit the fan.  The final Rozen Maiden has arrived, and she seems to have a thing for devouring souls.  Sorry mankind, your destructor has taken the form of pure cuteness.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 21
(Attack on Titan)
Yup, everything went wrong.

You know how things tend to go wrong in this show?  Yeah, shit went wrong.  Be sure to watch this week’s episode, which is guaranteed to leave you knowing how futile it is to be human.  Enjoy!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 20
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Attack on Misaka.

Just when it seems this story arc is just going to be more cute antics, evil science arrives to ruin the girls’ fun in Academy city.  Can Misaka and friends protect little Febri from random attacks by robots and powered suits?  Watch and find out!

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 8
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
I’m literally speechless.

Tomoko’s younger cousin is going to come over, and now Tomoko has to find a way to back up her stories of getting laid all the time to impress her.  This involves near-fatal misuse of a vacuum cleaner, an awkward conversation with a boy that gave her an umbrella, and cheating at a card game for kids in the name of fame and glory.  At least we can always count on Tomoko to keep it classy…

Weekly Anime Round-Up: August 19th– August 25th

Things are back up to speed, and I’ve managed to catch up on all things Symphogear, for those who felt left out last week.  We are entering the last quarter of this summer, and plans are brewing for the fall season.  At this time I’m not planning on taking up as many shows for the round-up, but I’m sure I will still get seduced by more shows than I plan to watch as always.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation:  Episode 7
(Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation)
Iris heart is arguably more evil at heart than the villains of Gameindustri.

Easy-going and absent minded Plutia joins the crew this week, much to the elation of fans of Neptunia V.  Arfore hatches a new scheme to destroy the goddesses, and anyone that has played V probably knows this is a bad thing to do around Plutia.  Prepare yourselves for the magnificence that is Iris Heart.

Danganronpa:  The Animation:  Episode 8
I really want a Monokuma plushie.

With another trial over, another floor of the Academy is unlocked.  Naegi bears witness to events that leads him to believe that Monobear has a student working for him amongst the crew, and this causes some friction between Kyouko and himself.  And of course, another student winds up dead.  Find out which one!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Ilya:  Episode 7
Ilya demonstrates her true otaku spirit.

Before jumping back into the action, things go back into comedy territory this week.  Did you know that Ilya has a thing for maids?  The first half of this episode is full of depraved hilariousness, but things get serious again when the Assassin card appears.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince:  Episode 20
Careful, she’s a clinger.

Recent events have taken a toll on everyone, and in the meantime the GDF is trying to gather support for a final assault on the Wulgaru warp gate.  This episode is full of big revelations, so I’m not going to say anything else to avoid spoilers.

Highschool DxD NEW:  Episode 8
Xenovia teaches all of us the importance of safe sex.

Issei finally meets his antithesis, the White Dragon Albion, face to face.  Fortunately for Issei, Albion isn’t looking for a fight… yet.  This leaves Issei free to continue dreaming about becoming a harem king while making everyone one of his regular classmates jealous.  The week Issei and friends also meet one of the four Great Overlords, whom also happens to be a sexy magical girl.  Damn, this show just keeps getting better…

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen:  Episode 7
(The World God Only Knows:  Season 3)
This dude is a machine.

Kaima has fallen ill from rushing to help Kanon without taking care of himself.  Not only does this not stop his conquest scheme, he uses it to his advantage.  Take a seat, OG’s and pimps, this is the work of a true master.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi:  Episode 8
(The Sunday without God)
This is one of the craziest casts of characters I have seen in a while.

The plan to escape the school is nearly complete, and the final breakout is to begin in another day or so.  When Ai discovers some of her fellow students would rather stay behind than escape, she attempts to coerce them into leaving with her insane positivity.  Just for added awesome points, there is a tiny bit of badass gun slinging to look forward too.

Monogatari Series: Second Season:  Episode 8
School uniform Shinobu is ridiculously adorable.

Araragi and Shinobu end up much farther into the past than the expected, by about 11 years.  Araragi decides that he should take advantage of this opportunity to change the fate of an old friend.  This somehow involves Araragi chasing little girls around the neighborhood…

Ro-Kyu-Bu!  SS:  Episode 7 (Last week’s episode should have been “6.5”, ~oh!)
Little girls have objectified and taken ownership of an innocent young man. Checkmate, feminists.

Maho’s father invites Subaru and the girls to his Mansion, somehow confusing the event for an arranged marriage between Subaru and Maho.  Since he happens to be fabulously wealthy, he offers Subaru just about anything he can think of as an apology.  This leads to Maho’s father funding a huge basketball tournament that challenges loliballers from around Japan.  Yes, this episode has what you all came here to see: lolis playing basketball.  Prepare for a cliffhanger ending at halftime.

Rozen Maiden (2013):  Episode 8
I really hope this guy gets killed by one of the dolls somehow.

There isn’t much noteworthy to mention from this episode.  Jun goes to work, helps his friend out with her play, works on his doll, and his boss is still a cockmongler.  I’m sure they are going somewhere with this…

Senki Zesshou Symphogear G:  Episodes 7&8
Never take candy from strangers, even if they claim to be scientists.

Did you miss not getting a fix of sexy girls in song-powered combat gear?  I sure did.  Things get pretty crazy over these two episodes, and since a lot of fans are playing catch-up, I’m not going to say anything to avoid spoiling the fun.

Shingeki no Kyojin:  Episode 20
(Attack on Titan)
As bad as this looks, she deserves everything she gets.

The female titan has been captured, and everyone is eager to find out if she is another human capable of transforming into a titan.  As usual, she is one step ahead of everyone, and manages to defend the nape of her neck even while captive.  What else could possibly go wrong?

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S:  Episode 19
(A Certain Scientific Railgun)
Children really should be afraid of tsundere’s that shoot lightning.

The Railgun “filler arc” continues.  Despite the grumbling amongst some fans, however, I don’t really think these episodes are much different from what happens between major conflicts, and they are still quite fun to watch.  For those looking for extra Railgun fun, the fansub community has put out MMR (Much More Railgun) 3 from the BD’s, the latest of the ridiculous shorts where the show’s creators go crazy.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!:  Episode 7
(It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular!)
AKA: Watamote
I typically consider this an “awesome” day.

Summer break has arrived, and Tomoko does what she always does, playing games, watching anime, and surfing the internet.  For some reason she becomes concerned that she is “wasting” her summer, so she decides to make an attempt at becoming an internet idol. Things only go south from here.
